Physical Education & Athletics Program

The Health & Physical Education program is designed to enhance students’ physical development and coordination skills. The physical education and health program are correlated with the Florida Sunshine Standards. Students learn basic knowledge about their bodies and abilities. They also develop life management skills and practice ethical behaviors, cooperation, and social interaction. Physical activity also provides the opportunity for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and communication. Students participate in a variety of sports activities with emphasis on sportsmanship. Students are taught about the benefits of being physically active, and to appreciate and respect the difference in individual ability and cultural diversity of people.

Team sports that are taught include volleyball, basketball, soccer, flag football, and track and field. Health programs provide knowledge about the human body system, emotional, intellectual, social health, family life, growth, and development, community and environmental health. Life skills provide opportunities for students to learn and practice real life situations such as decision making, managing stress, setting goals, resolving conflicts, communicating, and refusing risky behaviors. Thinking skills connect to all subject areas in the school curriculum. They are essential for enabling students to use critical thinking, and using facts and problem solving. Students from Pre K-10 grades are allotted Physical Education sessions.

In the upper school it is a credit-required course. State certified and trained coaches coordinate the activities of the program. Students are encouraged to play a variety of sports such as volleyball, basketball, soccer, flag football, and track and field. After school sports boost students’ moral and development of self-esteem.

Nur –Ul- Islam Academy’s Physical Education Department hosts a variety of opportunities for our students to excel in extra-curricular athletic programs. N.U.I.A.’s team sports are offered for students of all ages starting in the fall season of each year with the elementary, middle school boys, and girls’ soccer teams. These teams practice throughout the week and participate in competition with other schools in our area.

Nur-Ul-Islam Academy also offers the unique opportunity for high school students to participate in flag football, basketball, and soccer training. Students are able to experience school spirit, develop sports skills, and excel in fitness, sportsmanship, critical thinking, and teambuilding by utilizing progressive training techniques and educational strategies from experienced coaches and staff.

The winter season brings flag football to students- athletes can participate at the elementary and middle school levels. The high school program at this time transitions to its basketball training. During the spring, the academic and athletic year concludes with the elementary and middle school students participating in basketball games.
